Safety

Using vehicle speed sensors and seat sensors, smart airbags in the Electrified GV70 deploy with different levels of force or don’t deploy at all to help better protect passengers of all sizes in different collisions. The Electrified GV70’s side airbags will shut off if a child is leaning against the door. The EX90’s side airbags don’t have smart features and will always deploy full force.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the Electrified GV70. But it costs extra on the EX90.

Both the Electrified GV70 and the EX90 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, front seat center airbag, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

Warranty

The Electrified GV70 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The EX90’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Genesis’ powertrain warranty covers the Electrified GV70 6 years and 50,000 miles longer than Volvo covers the EX90. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the EX90 ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

Genesis pays for scheduled maintenance on the Electrified GV70 for 1 year and 16000 miles longer than Volvo pays for maintenance for the EX90 (3/36,000 vs. 2/20,000).

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are better in initial quality than Volvo vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Genesis above average in initial quality. With 75 more problems per 100 vehicles, Volvo is rated below average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are more reliable than Volvo With 29 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks Genesis higher than Volvo.

Engine

The Electrified GV70’s electric motors produces 154 more horsepower (483 vs. 329) and 162 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 354) than the EX90’s standard electric motor. The Electrified GV70’s electric motors produces 34 more horsepower (483 vs. 449) and 22 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 494) than the EX90 Twin Motor’s standard electric motors.

The Electrified GV70 has a standard locking charge port which locks and unlocks with the power locks. The EX90 doesn’t have a locking charge port. A locking charge port prevents tampering and damage.

Transmission

The Electrified GV70’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The EX90 doesn’t offer launch control.

Brakes and Stopping

The Electrified GV70’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the EX90 are solid, not vented.

Suspension and Handling

For better maneuverability, the Electrified GV70’s turning circle is .9 feet tighter than the EX90’s (37.8 feet vs. 38.7 feet).

Chassis

The Genesis Electrified GV70 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 450 to 600 pounds less than the Volvo EX90.

The Electrified GV70 is 1 foot shorter than the EX90, making the Electrified GV70 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Passenger Space

The Electrified GV70 has .4 inches more front legroom, .1 inches more front hip room, 1 inch more front shoulder room and .1 inches more rear legroom than the EX90.

Cargo Capacity

The Electrified GV70 has a much larger cargo volume than the EX90 with its rear seat up (28.7 vs. 13.3 cubic feet).

Towing

The Electrified GV70’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the EX90’s (3500 vs. 3307 pounds).

Ergonomics

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) conducts detailed tests on headlights for their range both straight ahead and in curves and to be certain they don’t exceed acceptable amounts of glare to oncoming drivers. The Electrified GV70’s headlights were rated “Good” by the IIHS, while the EX90’s headlights are rated “Acceptable.”

The EX90’s cornering lamps activate a lamp on the front corner when the turn signal is activated. The Electrified GV70’s standard adaptive cornering lights turn the actual headlight unit up to several degrees, depending on steering wheel angle and vehicle speed. This lights a significant distance into corners at any speed.

The Electrified GV70’s power mirror controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The EX90’s power mirror controls are embedded in the infotainment system, seriously distracting drivers who have to adjust them while driving.

The Genesis Electrified GV70 has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the rear view mirror. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Volvo charges extra for Homelink® on the EX90.

The Electrified GV70 has a 115-volt a/c outlet in the cargo area, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The EX90 doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The Electrified GV70 Prestige’s Smart Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Smart Parking Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The EX90’s automatic parking system does not offer parking by remote control.

Recommendations

The GV70 was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2025 and 2 more times in the last 4 years. The EX90 has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.

Motor Trend selected the Electrified GV70 as their 2022 Sport Utility of the Year. The EX90 has never been chosen.
