Compare the2026 Genesis GV80VS 2025 Audi new Q5 Sportback

The GV80’s optional pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The new Q5 Sportback doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The Genesis GV80 has a standard driver’s side knee airbag mounted low on the dashboard. The knee airbag helps prevent the driver from sliding under the seatbelts or the main frontal airbag; this keeps the driver better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. A knee airbag also helps keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The new Q5 Sportback doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The GV80 has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The new Q5 Sportback doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

Both the GV80 and the new Q5 Sportback have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors, available all wheel drive and around view monitors.

The GV80 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The new Q5 Sportback’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Genesis’ powertrain warranty covers the GV80 6 years and 50,000 miles longer than Audi covers the new Q5 Sportback. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the new Q5 Sportback ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

Genesis pays for scheduled maintenance on the GV80 for 3 years and 36,000 miles. Genesis will pay for oil changes, tire rotations, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Audi only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the new Q5 Sportback.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the GV80 second among upper midsize premium suvs in their 2025 Initial Quality Study. The new Q5 Sportback isn’t in the top three in its category.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are better in initial quality than Audi vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Genesis above average in initial quality. With 86 more problems per 100 vehicles, Audi is rated below average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are more reliable than Audi With 60 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks Genesis higher than Audi.

The GV80 2.5T’s standard 2.5 turbo 4-cylinder produces 32 more horsepower (300 vs. 268) and 16 lbs.-ft. more torque (311 vs. 295) than the new Q5 Sportback’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder hybrid. The GV80 3.5T’s standard 3.5 turbo V6 produces 107 more horsepower (375 vs. 268) and 96 lbs.-ft. more torque (391 vs. 295) than the new Q5 Sportback’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder hybrid.

The GV80 has 3.9 gallons more fuel capacity than the new Q5 Sportback (21.1 vs. 17.2 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

An eight-speed automatic is standard on the Genesis GV80, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a seven-speed automatic is available for the new Q5 Sportback.

For better stopping power the GV80’s brake rotors are larger than those on the new Q5 Sportback:

For better traction, the GV80 has larger tires than the new Q5 Sportback (265/40R22 vs. 235/55R19). The GV80 PRESTIGE’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the new Q5 Sportback (265/40R22 vs. 255/45R20).

The GV80 PRESTIGE’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the new Q5 Sportback’s optional 45 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the GV80 PRESTIGE has standard 22-inch wheels. The new Q5 Sportback’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

The GV80 SELECT/PRESTIGE BLACK has a standard space-saver spare (not available on RWD/ADVANCED/PRESTIGE) so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the new Q5 Sportback; it requires you to depend on its run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed.

The GV80’s optional drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The new Q5 Sportback doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the GV80’s wheelbase is 5.4 inches longer than on the new Q5 Sportback (116.3 inches vs. 110.9 inches).

The design of the Genesis GV80 amounts to more than styling. The GV80 has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .33 Cd. That is lower than the new Q5 Sportback (.35) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the GV80 get better fuel mileage.

The front grille of the GV80 uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The new Q5 Sportback doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The GV80 PRESTIGE uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The new Q5 Sportback doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The GV80 offers optional seating for 7 passengers; the new Q5 Sportback can only carry 5.

The GV80 has 2.2 inches more front headroom, .7 inches more front legroom, 2.9 inches more front shoulder room, .5 inches more rear headroom, .7 inches more rear legroom and 2.4 inches more rear shoulder room than the new Q5 Sportback.

The GV80’s cargo area provides more volume than the new Q5 Sportback.

The GV80’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the new Q5 Sportback’s (6000 vs. 4400 pounds).

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the GV80 has a standard rear fixed intermittent wiper with a full on position. The rear wiper standard on the new Q5 Sportback only has an intermittent setting, so in a hard rain visibility isn’t as good.

The GV80 ADVANCED/PRESTIGE has standard front air conditioned seats and the GV80 3.5T PRESTIGE also has them in the second row. This keeps the passengers comfortable and takes the sting out of hot seats in summer. The new Q5 Sportback doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

The GV80 PRESTIGE/3.5T has standard massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the new Q5 Sportback.

The GV80 SELECT/ADVANCED/PRESTIGE has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The new Q5 Sportback doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The GV80 Advanced/Prestige’s Smart Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Smart Parking Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The new Q5 Sportback’s automatic parking system does not offer parking by remote control.

The GV80 is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The new Q5 Sportback doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the GV80 third among upper midsize premium suvs in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The new Q5 Sportback isn’t in the top three.

The GV80 was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2021. The new Q5 Sportback has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.
