Compare the2026 Genesis G70VS 2025 Volvo S60

The G70 has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The S60 doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

Both the G70 and the S60 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors, available all wheel drive and around view monitors.

The G70 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The S60’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Genesis’ powertrain warranty covers the G70 6 years and 50,000 miles longer than Volvo covers the S60. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the S60 ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

Genesis pays for scheduled maintenance on the G70 for 1 year and 16000 miles longer than Volvo pays for maintenance for the S60 (3/36,000 vs. 2/20,000).

J.D. Power and Associates rated the G70 second among compact premium cars in their 2025 Initial Quality Study. The S60 isn’t in the top three.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are better in initial quality than Volvo vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Genesis above average in initial quality. With 75 more problems per 100 vehicles, Volvo is rated below average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are more reliable than Volvo With 29 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks Genesis higher than Volvo.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2025 Auto Issue reports that Genesis vehicles are more reliable than Volvo vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Genesis 1 place higher in reliability than Volvo.

The G70 2.5T’s standard 2.5 turbo 4-cylinder produces 53 more horsepower (300 vs. 247) and 53 lbs.-ft. more torque (311 vs. 258) than the S60 B5’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder hybrid.

As tested in Car and Driver the G70 3.3T 3.3 turbo V6 is faster than the S60 B5 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder:

Both the G70 2.5T and the S60 have a standard automatic start/stop engine feature to stop unnecessary fuel waste and pollution at stoplights and heavy traffic. All G70 2.5Ts have a standard disable switch for the system, so a driver can keep the engine from shutting off when the vehicle stops temporarily. The S60 T8 doesn’t offer a way to disable start/stop.

The G70 3.3T’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The S60 doesn’t offer launch control.

For better traction and acceleration, the G70 has larger rear tires than the S60 (255/35R19 vs. 235/45R18).

The G70’s 225/40R19 front and 255/35R19 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series front and 35 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the S60’s standard 45 series tires. The G70’s tires are lower profile than the S60’s optional 40 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the G70 has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the S60.

The front and rear suspension of the G70 uses coil springs for better ride, handling and control than the S60, which uses transverse leafs springs in the rear. Coil springs compress more progressively and offer more suspension travel for a smoother ride with less bottoming out.

The G70 handles at .94 G’s, while the S60 AWD pulls only .90 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The G70 executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the S60 Plus AWD (24.9 seconds @ .77 average G’s vs. 25.8 seconds @ .71 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the G70’s turning circle is .8 feet tighter than the S60’s (36.3 feet vs. 37.1 feet).

The G70 is 3.7 inches shorter than the S60, making the G70 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The front grille of the G70 uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The S60 doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

As tested by Car and Driver, the interior of the G70 is quieter than the S60 Core:

The G70 has 2.4 inches more front headroom, .3 inches more front legroom, .7 inches more front hip room, .2 inches more front shoulder room, 1.5 inches more rear headroom, 1.6 inches more rear hip room and .1 inches more rear shoulder room than the S60.

The engine in the G70 is mounted longitudinally (North-South), instead of sideways, as in the S60. This makes it easier to service and maintain, because the accessory belts are in front.

The G70 Prestige’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The S60 doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the G70 has standard extendable sun visors. The S60 doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The Genesis G70 has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the rear view mirror. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Volvo charges extra for Homelink® on the S60.

The G70 is equipped with both FM and AM stereo radios, offering access to more content and better coverage than the S60, which solely provides FM radio. With AM radio, you can enjoy a wider variety of stations featuring news, talk shows, sports commentary, native language programing, automated traffic guidance, and emergency broadcasts. AM waves travel further and penetrate buildings and obstacles more effectively than FM signals, especially at night. Having both FM and AM stereo radios the G70 offers a more comprehensive listening experience compared to only FM in the S60.

HD Radio boasts several benefits over conventional radio: superior sound quality with clearer and consistent FM broadcasts, CD-quality audio, and Multicast Channels offering up to four streams from a single station, adding programming choices. Cars like the G70 equipped with HD Radio provide an improved in-car entertainment experience. The S60, devoid of this technology, foregoes these benefits. Selecting the Genesis G70 empowers drivers to enjoy a more immersive and enjoyable listening experience while on the go.

According to iSeeCars.com the 2025 Genesis G70 retains 50.98% of its original value after 5 years, more than the 47.58% resale value of the 2025 Volvo S60 after five years, which can save the Genesis’ owner up to $1325.21716 in depreciation.

Motor Trend performed a comparison test in its January 2019 issue and the Genesis G70 won out over the Volvo S60 Plus AWD.
